What to Do When You Feel Like You Don’t Matter

If you’re depressed, it’s easy to feel like you don’t matter. But I’m here to tell you that you do matter, even when it doesn’t feel like it. 😃 Here’s what to do when you feel like you don’t matter.

If you're depressed, it's easy to feel like you don't matter. But I'm here to tell you that you do matter, even when it doesn't feel like it. 😃 Here's what to do when you feel like you don't matter.

What to Do When You Feel Like You Don’t Matter

Think about all the music out there. There’s millions and millions of songs, right? But what if your favorite band had said, “Well, there’s already thousands of bands out there. They don’t need another one.” But it would matter to YOU, wouldn’t it? Actually, it would matter to a lot more people than you realize.

It’s kind of like that for people, too.

“To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.”

You probably matter to a lot more people than you realize. And going along with the band example, if your favorite band had decided that there were already enough singers and bands out there, the world would be missing out on something really great. The world never even would have gotten the chance to appreciate that band if they had given up before they’d even started.

“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.” – Martha Graham

You have to keep going. 😃 The world needs you in it. You have a unique voice and point of view that no one else in the entire world could replicate – there is only one person exactly like you in the world, and that’s YOU. You matter.

Why You’re Important and You Matter

“Nature never repeats herself, and the possibilities of one human soul will never be found in another.” – Elizabeth Cady Stanton

You’re amazing.

Did you know that? I’m sure of it. 🙂

There’s never been anyone else exactly like you in the entire history of the universe, and there never will be again. That’s how freaking amazing and unique you are.

So if you’re feeling down on yourself and like you have nothing to contribute to the world, just remember that you’re important and you matter. There never has been, and never will be, anyone exactly like you.

You’re made out of the same carbon atoms that at one point were maybe star dust or perhaps a large dinosaur. You could have turned into a puddle of crude oil or coal, but instead you get to be a living, breathing human being! How cool is that?? I like to think that the molecules that make me up used to be a velociraptor. (I’m not sure if that’s exactly how it works.) 🙂

This quote just blows my mind:

“The amazing thing is that every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. And, the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all stardust.” – Lawrence M. Krauss

Think about that when you feel insignificant.

And think about your life, too.

What experiences do you have that no one else has had? Maybe it’s not any one particular experience that’s extraordinary in and of itself, but just the combination of events that led you to this point in your life right now. No one else has a life story that reads exactly like yours does. Pretty cool, right?

You were put on this earth for a reason. A very important reason. And it’s your job as a human being to figure out that reason and then carry out the purpose of your life.

Sound important? That’s because you are!

And if you don’t fulfill your purpose, then no one else can do your job just the way you would have done it. So it’s up to you.

Live your life proudly.

You matter.
